    A Fun To Do List

Some of the very best moments in parenting are those in which your children teach you about life.  We adults can get bogged down the mundane-ness of every day to the point where life can feel like one big obligation after another. There’s always more to be done. Especially if you’re a parent. Always another meal to make, an ouchie to kiss, and a nose or a mouth or a butt to wipe. Another thing to scratch off the to do list while three more get added on to the end. It never ends. And mostly, it’s not very fun. I was mindlessly cleaning up the house the other morning,…

A Going on a Bear Hunt Kind of Saturday

So many of our weekends are taken up with all those things that can take over the life of a young family. Birthday parties, baby showers, soccer tournaments, family commitments… On rare weekends when life is quiet and it’s just the four of us, we have a little tradition of going out for a morning family walk. Two kids, the dog, and two travel mugs of steaming coffee for Husband and I. This morning was one of those times. For some reason it was especially memorable.  Very “We’re Going on a Bear Hunt” if you know what I mean. If you don’t, it’s a modern classic children’s book by Michael Rosen…

  • My Girl

Sugar and Spice and All Things….Crazy.

I used to say that my daughter was the perfect baby. She was. She barely cried, she was world champion breast feeder, she pretty much slept through the night by the time she was two months old.  As an infant she was nothing but pleasant. Jovial even.  As a toddler. A dream. None of that “terrible two” stuff for us.  And then she turned three. And she started asking lots of questions. And sometimes my answer to one of those questions was “No.” And then this started happening… All. The. Time. People told me that “three is the new two.” So, I rode it out and figured it would end…

    In Defense of a Princess

I’ve been seeing and reading things in the media lately about the evils of little girls and all things “Princess.” Well, all things pink, sparkly and overtly “femine” in general, I suppose. I’m not sure if this debate is new or if it has always been around and I’m just now tuned into it since I am knee deep in the prime princess years myself with this rather sparkly four year old girl: A small part of me feels like I should hang my head in shame, turn in my feminist membership card, and report myself to social services for allowing my innocent child to prance around in this get…

    Coffee Cup Flower Pot

Update: If you happened to land on this post because you were searching for where to buy a “coffee cup flower pot” I got this one at Menards, but you can find them at most major home/gardening stores.  A quick post to share a few pictures of the new flower pot I got the other day.  I saw these outside of a little cafe in my town and went on a mission to find one for myself.  You can read about my find here. I can not tell you how inexplicably happy this coffee cup flower pot makes me in all it’s quirky polka-dotted glory. Miss A had to get into…

    Spontaneous

I had the craziest day today.  Good crazy, but crazy.  It was crazy cause of all the spontaneity but those are the days that really get me going.  It was supposed to be a boring rainy day that started off with a dentist appointment for my little darlings and ended with cleaning the house frantically before my sister and nephew arrived for a visit.  Instead we went straight from the dentist to an impromptu trip to the hardware store since I happened to hear on the radio that they had weed wackers on sale.  I love a good weed wacker sale, what can I say?  (Also-my darling husband/father to my children…

    Teacher Gift Idea

Ahhhh, the sweet taste of freedom!  The school year officially ended for both my boy and I today at 12pm.  I have much to post regarding my boy Z’s Kindergarten Graduation, our summer plans and my general state of being after being released from the role of working mom just hours ago….but I can’t really wrap my head around any of those things at the moment.  I refuse to process that Z has finished his first year of formal schooling.  I will not accept that in 9 months time he has gone from a virtual baby to this big kid who knows things like how to read, and add numbers,…

    Mother’s Day and Other Musings

See what I mean about the me and the not posting very much until school is over thing?  Sheesh.  I don’t know how other moms are able to pull off working full time all year round.  There’s never any time to do everything you actually need to accomplish in any given day.  Either the children are fed or they have clean laundry.  Never both.  Okay, some how both of those things usually get done in reality but that’s how it feels in my mind.  The only sanity I have is knowing that there is a light at the end of the tunnel and I will have 12 whole weeks off to just concentrate…
