    DIY Glittery Thanksgiving Garland

Hello, friends. I have a really cool little DIY Thanksgiving project to share with you today. I’m seriously in love with the way it turned out. Like, I keep walking past it and stopping to admire it and then I say to whomever is standing within ear shot, “I really love that. Isn’t it cool? I’m so proud of myself.” By now my family’s eyes have begun to glaze over and they just reply with a patronizing, “Yeah. It’s great.”  That’s why I’m so glad I have you guys. You’ll understand. It’s a glittery Thanksgiving garland for the mantle. I really love it. Isn’t it cool? I’m so proud of…

Loving Lately: I Have a Thing for Gourds

I’m all about gourds in the Fall. I love how they are all at once earthy and beautiful and weird.  I love decorating with them as soon as the air starts to get that little crispness in it.  Not only do they make a beautiful natural decoration but they’re a relatively cheap way to spruce up your decor and mark the change of seasons.   Needless to say, when I walked into the grocery store last week and saw a huge bin of them in all their freaky glory I was admittedly a bit giddy.  What can I say, I’m easy to please.   I grabbed up a bunch of the most interesting looking…

Back to School and DIY Decorating

Today is my first day back to work after a fabulous summer off.  While I will miss our lazy summer days, I can’t say I’m not a little bit excited to transition back to the structure of the school year.   What I’m trying to say is this: all the lack of responsibility has turned my kids into lunatics and I’m pretty sure they are conspiring some evil plot against me just to amuse themselves. For reals.   While I’m easing back into the swing of things this week, the kiddos have one more week off before the bat shit hits the fan, so to speak.   In order to prepare…

    DIY Framed Fabric Wall Decor

It’s silly, but I’m so freaking proud of myself right now.  I’m DIY-er, who knew??   I was inspired by something I saw on Pinterest and instead of just repining this little idea to my “Home Decorating Ideas” board and then immediately mentally pinning it to my “Crap That’s Cool But I’ll Never In A Million Years Actually Do” board, I actually did it.   Procrastination: 0 Me: 1…Yay me!! Okay, so this has got to be the easiest DIY project in the history of DIY decorating projects.  Like, I’m talking a monkey could do this.  But hey, you’ve gotta start somewhere, right?? So here’s my inspiration from the Better Homes and Gardens…

    My New Polka Dot Chair

I just accidentally deleted a post I’ve been working on all day. All. Day.  I feel like I need to cry a little but right now I’m still in the staring off into space in disbelief phase…. Rather than trying to recreate the Pulitzer Prize winning masterpiece that I was about to share with you, I’ll just leave you with this for now…sigh…   This is the chair I bought today!  I’m so excited!  I’ve been searching and searching for an accent chair for my living room and I came across this one at www.homedecoratorscollection.com and I think it will be perfect! The best part is that it’s on clearance for…

    Rethinking Wallpaper

A quick post today as I am frantically preparing for Mr. Man’s big birthday bash tomorrow.  He is turning 6!  It doesn’t seem possible….but more on that later.    Anyway-I have a decorating idea that I’ve been mulling over….wallpaper.  I’m typically horrified by wallpaper but my sister insists that it’s coming back.  All I can conjure up are images of bad 80’s florals, pastel splatter paint and country geese with little bows around their necks.  I’m shuddering just thinking about it.  But then I found this: It’s from Anthroplogie and I think it’s kind of fabulous.  There’s a little wall in my living room that I think would make this work.  I…

    A Happy Little Reminder

This sign is hanging over the window in my breakfast nook.  Okay, I’m not totally certain that I have a breakfast nook.  It’s maybe just the part of my kitchen where the kitchen table is and it’s surrounded by windows.  I’ve always wanted to say I have a breakfast nook so I’m saying it.  So there. Anyway, as I was saying before I so rudely interrupted myself, this sign is hanging in my kitchen.  It makes me happy to look at it. It has a funny history…A couple years ago my sister and her husband were house hunting and my mom came along on one of the showings.  The house was…

A Touch of Pneumonia and Home Decor

I am home today with a sick little boy who’s getting less and less sick by the minute and a rambunctious not sick at all 3 year old girl and I’m losing my mind… My son got sent home from school last Wednesday with a fever and horrible cough and never quite recovered.  We spent Memorial Day in urgent care and got a diagnosis of “a touch of pneumonia.” So, that was fun. Who gets pneumonia on Memorial Day?? That’s what oppressive Wisconsin winters are for.  Someone needs to send the bacteria in my son’s lungs a memo. We are 3 doses of antibiotics in and the young chap seems to be recovering nicely. …
